Bhupathi-Bopanna win Dubai Open title

Dubai, March 3 (IANS) India’s Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna won their first title together, beating the Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the final of the men’s doubles event of the ATP Dubai Open tennis here Saturday.
The fourth-seeded Indian pair won 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 after staving off a tough challenge from the Polish pair in the final of the $1,700,475 hard court event.
The India duo, with an eye on Olympics, paired up together at the start of the year and had reached the semifinals of two tournaments but finally won their maiden title here.
FOr Bhupathi, however, it was his fourth title in Dubai. He had won the title here in 1998 with Leander Paes, in 2004 with Fabrice Santoro and in 2008 with Mark Knowles.
The Dubai Open win was also Bopanna’s sixth ATP title.
Paes and his partner Janko Tipsarevic had made a first round exit losing 4-6, 5-7 to second seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Teacu.
