Bhullar still on top; Kapur misses cut at DLF Masters golfSeptember 19th, 2008 - 10:25 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS) Youngster Gaganjeet Bhullar maintained his lead with an even par 72 on the second day while Shiv Kapur missed the cut at the DLF Masters golf tournament here Friday. Bhullar, who shot a flawless five-under 67 on the opening day, took his two-day total to five-under 67 and is now one stroke ahead of tournament favourite Jyoti Randhawa. Shiv Kapur (76, 78) missed the cut by one stroke, having totalled 10 over 154 for the first two rounds.
Randhawa returned with a four under 68 to move into second place with an overall score of four under 140. Shamim Khan is currently in third place at two under 142 while Arjun Singh (71, 72) is a further stroke behind in fourth.
The cut was declared at nine over 153 and 55 professionals made to the weekend rounds. In the last two rounds the professionals will also team up with amateurs to compete for the team championship. Each team will comprise of two professionals and one amateur and the team score will be calculated by taking into account the two best scores out of three on a hole-by-hole basis.
Bhullar had a relatively quieter round and started with a double bogey on the 10th and thereafter managed just two birdies on the 11th and eighth.
“I missed a few fairways and my tee shots were not as accurate as they were on day one. I also missed a couple of short putts for birdie on the 13th and 14th. Both these putts were inside 10 feet. The course is playing tough due to the rain and wind and it will be difficult to shoot low scores if the conditions remain the same over the next two days,” he said.
Randhawa recorded the best round of the day to climb from overnight tied seventh to second.
The European Tour regular brought all his experience to tame the wet conditions by shooting a low number. Randhawa was two over after four holes having made bogeys on the 12th and 13th but came back well by sinking birdies on the 16th, 17th, fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth.
Harmeet Kahlon (68, 76), Mukesh Kumar (72, 72), Ajeetesh Sandhu (70, 74) and C. Muniyappa (72, 72) are all tied fifth at even par 144. Ashok Kumar (72, 73) and Harendra Gupta (71, 74) are both tied ninth at one over 145.
Gaurav Ghei (75, 71) and Rahul Ganapathy (73, 73) have an identical total of two over 146 and are placed tied 13th.
