London, Aug 3 (ANI): After scoring a spectacular free-kick in a recent friendly match against Barcelona, David Beckham has said that he would rather ignore abusive LA Galaxy fans in future.
Defending his recent attempts to confront angry supporters, the England midfielder has now conceded that it was a pointless exercise.
“He insulted my wife,” Sky News quoted Beckham as saying of his exchange with a fan at a recent Major League Soccer match in Kansas City.
“If you insult my family members I am going to stick up for my wife and family. But if it happens again I wouldn’t even look at him. It is not worth the time and energy,” he added.
The midfielder was speaking after finding the net in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Champions League winners Barcelona.
More than 93,000 were at the Rose Bowl to see the match, the largest crowd at a game in America since the 1994 World Cup.
Beckham was again booed by a section of Galaxy fans, who question his commitment to the club.LA Galaxy fans showed their displeasure during a recent match, but he played down the situation.
“Quite a few are still reacting the way they react,” he said.
“But out of 93,000 people you have 95 or 97 percent who are incredible. Then you have the odd minority but that is life.
“Back in 1998 it was 100 times worse and it affected me 100 times worse. This is nothing,” he added.
Beckham was fined 1,000 dollars for one of his earlier incidents with fans.
“It has got to be an emotional time for David,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said.
“The opposite of love is not hate. It is indifference.
“I don’t support the way they (Galaxy fans) have treated him. We need to start to put all this behind us,” Garber added. (ANI)
