Beckham still hoping for England return

London, Mar 26(ANI): Los Angeles Galaxy captain David Beckham’s head will be focused on his team’s Major League Soccer (MLS) game against Real Salt Lake, but his heart will be with England in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales in Cardiff today.
Beckham has not been part of an England squad since the Egypt friendly on March 3 last year, and last played for his country against Belarus in October 2009.
The 35-year-old, however, has never given up hope of adding to his 115 England caps and perhaps overtaking Peter Shilton’s all-time 125-cap appearance record, but is not interested in a token farewell game.
His main aim is to win back a place in the squad in time for next summer’s European Championship finals in Poland and Ukraine, and also wants to represent Great Britain in the London Olympics.
“David is cut from the same cloth as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. They keep incredibly fit and retain the hunger to play at top level. They don’t start every game for Manchester United, but are still capable of playing for their national teams,” the Daily Express quoted a friend of Beckham, as saying.
Beckham had recently spent two months training with Tottenham Hotspurs, and has played in Galaxy’s first two games of the new MLS season. (ANI)
