Beckham still hopes to clinch AC Milan dealFebruary 16th, 2009 - 9:33 pm ICT by IANS
London, Feb 16 (IANS) Former England captain David Beckham hopes that a deal could still be concluded by the weekend to keep him with Italian Serie A giants AC Milan.
Beckham is with Milan on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy and the American club had set Friday as the deadline to seal the deal. But Milan did not stick to the deadline, seeing it as pressure tactics, and decided to send the fresh bid by Sunday.
According to reports in The Daily Telegraph, Galaxy have indicated that they want in excess of 10 million pounds after rejecting an initial offer of five million pounds, but some common ground at around eight million pounds is expected to be found.
Beckham, who suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday night’s 2-1 loss to Inter Milan, said : “I’ve said I want to stay here and if I do go back then it will be a bit difficult. It is out of my hands and they’ll be talking in the next week or two.”
It was Beckham’s seventh consecutive start for Milan since his arrival last month. And after the loss his chances of adding a Serie A title to his seven league championship title he won in England and Spain look bleak. He was withdrawn after 57 minutes. It was also the first time, the English footballer ended up being on the losing side.
