London, June 7(ANI): World’s most famous footballer David Beckham will be a key member of Fabio Capello’s England World Cup squad as last season’s statistics suggest that the veteran midfielder was streets ahead of his rivals when it came to goal scoring.
Statistics show that the AC Milan and LA Galaxy legend, who played 18 times in Serie A for AC Milan, created 3.2 chances per 90 minutes played, which is 50 per cent more than his nearest England rival, Shaun Wright-Phillips.
While Beckham, has not scored as many goals when compared to Wright-Phillips and Aaron Lennon, who both have scored five goals, he played far fewer games, The Sun reported.
Wright-Phillips, played 27 Premier League games for Manchester City, while Lennon played 35 games for Tottenham.
Beckham’s goal assist figures are impressive as well. Beckham made five goal assists, while Wright-Phillips has three, Lennon five and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has just two in his 22 games.
Beckham also hits nearly twice as many crosses per game as any of the other three - another key factor in his favour. (ANI)
