Beach To Beacon On August 7th

beachMaine, Mar 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The legendary Beach To Beacon race is back. Last Friday, the organizers declared the online registration for the 10km race. They also made it clear that the registration process will involve three different phases to ensure that all aspirants get an equal opportunity to participate in the race.

The Beach to Beacon race, which is to be held this year on August 7th, will have all the participants running along the coastline of Maine reaching the finish point Portland Head Light. The race is the only event that brings along all the runners that flock together in the coastal community of Cape Elizabeth. On Friday, the online registration was left open to one and all residing in Cape Elizabeth coastal community. This year the organizers of the beach to beacon race have come up with the idea of having a lottery for all those who shall not be able to book their spots via the online application. The time frame that has been decided for all Cape Elizabeth residents is 24 hours during which 600 slots are being kept intact for the general mass to drop in their registrations. After the first phase, the second phase commences from eight in the morning the following day for all general aspirants with an allotment of four thousand registration slots.

The history of Beach To beacon race dates back to 1998 when Olympic gold medalist runner Joan Benoit Samuelson laid the foundation of the race. TD Bank proved to be a worthy support as title sponsor with a noble vision of charity towards the children. The race money thus accumulated is passed on to several different charity works for children all around the country.
