Beach ball that denied Liverpool victory donated to football museum
November 22nd, 2009 - 2:11 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Nov.22 (ANI): The beach ball that bounced Liverpool out of the Premier League title race has been put on display at the National Football Museum after being won by a Sunderland fan in a News of the World charity auction on eBay.
The red plastic ball, which deflected a shot past Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina in a 1-0 victory for Sunderland last month, was donated to the museum by greengrocer Kevin Barlow after his winning bid of 411.77 pounds.
“No disrespect to Liverpool fans, but it was the funniest thing ever,” says Kevin, 43, who was at the Stadium of Light when the ball was thrown on to the pitch by a Reds fan.
“I just had to bid for it,” he added.
It will be displayed at the Preston National Football Museum alongside the ball from the 1966 World Cup Final and the original FA Cup.
The money raised will go to Imagine, the charity for Alder Hey Childrens’ Hospital in Liverpool. (ANI)
