London, Jan 5 (IANS) The captain of an English county team has accused the Indian cricket board of trying to “scupper” its plans to sign up Sachin Tendulkar.
Shaun Udal, who has already signed up Australian Adam Gilchrist, said a one day tournament being organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could spoil his plans.
The tournament is set to be held in the Indian subcontinent in June, which would clash with the English domestic Twenty20 championships.
Udal told BBC radio: “We know he (Sachin) is very keen and basically he would love to come but the Board of Control for Cricket in India have not been as positive as Sachin would like.
“They’re trying to organise a tournament in June of this year which might scupper our plans for Sachin. But he’s got a house in St John’s Wood, he’s local to the place and it would be great for Lord’s if we could get him.”
Middlesex’s home ground, Lord’s, is situated in the St John’s Wood area of London.
Udal also said Middlesex was “very interested” in signing up South African fast bowler Mkhaya Ntini if the player were to make himself available.
