BCCI calls its special general meeting on Dec 11
December 6th, 2010 - 9:59 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Dec 6 (IANS) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called its Special General Meeting (SGM) Dec 11 after facing legal opposition from suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi on the legality of the disciplinary committee.
BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan said the meeting has been called after Modi’s counsel raised some objections on the legality of the disciplinary committee.
“The SGM has been scheduled for Dec 11 and it will be held in Mumbai. We are holding this AGM with regard to the technical point raised by Modi’s counsel. It’s just a minor thing,” Srinivasan said.
Modi’s lawyers Mehmood Abdi said last month that the three-member disciplinary panel did not have the approval of the BCCI General Body.
Abdi said that BCCI didn’t re-constitute the Committee for 2010-11 at its Annual General Body Meeting held in September.
“As per 1(Q) of BCCI by-laws, various committees have to be freshly constituted. But in its AGM, the BCCI did not form a fresh disciplinary committee,” Abdi said.
Abdi had also pointed out that the term of the earlier committee had expired Sep 29.
