BCCI asks ICC to reconsider decision on Kotla
January 24th, 2010 - 10:12 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Jan 24 (IANS) The Indian cricket board has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reconsider its decision not to hold any international matches at Ferozeshah Kotla in Delhi until the end of December 2010.
ICC said in a statement Sunday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed an appeal and Michael Beloff has been appointed appeals commissioner in the case.
“Honourable Michael Beloff QC has been appointed to hear the appeal of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against the decision of the ICC’s general manager, Cricket, David Richardson, and chief referee Ranjan Madugalle that no international cricket would be played at the Delhi ground until the end of December 2010,” ICC said in a statement.
Richardson and Madugalle had reached the decision following an investigation into the abandonment of a One-day International match between India and Sri Lanka Dec 27 after the pitch was found “unfit” by ICC match referee Alan Hurst.
“Beloff is the chairman of the ICC Code of Conduct Commission and an extremely experienced sports lawyer and sits frequently as an arbitrator in the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” the ICC said.
“The matter will now proceed in accordance with the ICC’s pitch and outfield monitoring process and no further statement will be issued until after the matter has been decided,” the ICC statement said.
