London, May 2 (ANI): BBC’s veteran snooker commentator “whispering” Ted Lowe has died after a prolonged illness. He was 90.

Lowe was regarded as the “voice of snooker” and became a household name through the hit BBC TV show ‘Pot Black’ in 1969. He retired after the 1996 world snooker final.

“His health had been deteriorating for the last 10 weeks. He went into a hospice a week ago and I never left his side. But I could see he was slowly going. He still loved snooker and was watching it on TV,” the Daily Star quoted Lowe’s wife, Jean as saying.

Professional player John Virgo, who commentated alongside Lowe, expressed his sadness on Lowe’s demise, saying, “He set a standard for us all. He was wonderful and had an impish sense of humour. While cricket had its John Arlott, we had Ted Lowe. He was one of the BBC greats. It’s a sad day.” (ANI)
