Munich, Sep 3 (DPA) Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in an interview said that there is “no problem” between coach Louis van Gaal and midfielder Franck Ribery.
The French midfielder had said in interviews with French publications published earlier this week that his relationship with the Dutch coach was not close.
“It’s the first time I haven’t had a positive feeling with a coach. The feeling is not there,” Ribery was quoted by L’Equipe as saying.
But Rummenigge told Germany’s Kicker magazine: “I know from the player and the coach that there is no problem between them.”
Rummenigge also said he had not been in any doubt that Ribery would stay at the club despite transfer speculation this summer.
Asked whether Ribery would now be asked to knuckle down after all the speculation over his future, Rummenigge said: “Franck’s character is absolutely OK. Everyone should treat these things in a relaxed way.”
Rummenigge meanwhile said he was not interested in comments by former players such as goalkeeper Oliver Kahn who this week advised keeper Michael Rensing to seek a new club after again being dropped.
“I am not interested in all these critics,” he said.
“They should see that they find themselves a job in which they have something to say and not behave like the paid chief critics of FC Bayern,” he said.
