Bayern Munich extend lead in Bundesliga with win over Augsburg

Berlin, Nov 7 (IANS) German giant Bayern Munich staged an average performance against last positioned Augsburg to win 2-1 while Schalke came from behind to tie 2-2 with Hannover in the Bundesliga football.
Bundesliga leader Bayern opened the scoring against bottom team Augsburg owing top striker Mario Gomez who headed home a corner at the last post to shock dedicated Augsburg with 15 minutes into the match Sunday.
The Bavarians kept it bowling with the result that Frenchmen midfielder Franck Ribery doubled the lead when he overcame two Augsburg defenders to score into bottom right in the 27th minute.
With beginning of the second half Bayern decided to settle back to hand over control to Augsburg. Consequently, Augsburg astonished the record champion at the 59th minute when midfielder Hajime Hosogai made the most of a follow up shot to make it 1-2 on the scoreboard.
Bayern seemed shocked while Augsburg sniffed the chance to steal some points but Bayern goalie youngster Manuel Neuer saved his side the 2-1 win owing a terrific save just before time, Xinhua reported.
In the dying seconds of injury time, Bayern midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshcuck decided to finish his cap a head of time when he rudely fouled Augsburg midfielder Daniel Baier to book a straight red card.
The Bavarians continue to be at top of the standings with 28 points while Augsburg stays on the 18th position with 8 points.
Schalke youngster striker Teemu Pukki scored a brace at his first Bundesliga match to save one point for his side against Hannover.
The “Koeningsblauen” opened the scoring through youngster striker Teemu Pukki who utilised a pass into path in the 26th minute. Only three minutes later, Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos levelled the score for Hannover when he deflected a free kick from ten meters into his own goal.
After the interval, Hannover were able to take the 2-1 lead in the 59th minute when striker Mohammed Abdellaoue headed home a cross inside penalty area to shock the guests.
It had to come the 73rd minute when midfielder Pukki netted from sharp angle for the equaliser to save.
“I am not satisfied. We could have won but Schalke was better at the end,” Hannover coach Mirko Slomka said.
Hannover climb from seventh to sixth position with 19 points while Schalke slip from second to fifth position with 22 points.
