Barmy Army’s depleted force promises to invade Australia for Ashes
November 26th, 2010 - 6:09 pm ICT by ANIBrisbane, Nov 26(ANI): England’s Barmy Army has promised to overhaul the financial crisis to drown out the home support in the ongoing Ashes series.
Officials are predicting that about 15,000 to 20,000 English fans would arrive to support their team for the tour, well down from the 40,000 who visited during the 2006-07 Ashes.
Virgin Money, a UK-based financial services company, calculates that a full summer package of cricket in Australia will cost English fans about 30,000 dollars each.
However, the English supporters claim that the pound might have taken a dive against the Australian dollar, but the only thing falling in the series will be Australian wickets.
“The pound was a lot better last time, it is an issue, but if you can afford to come to Australia you afford to pay another pound for a pint of beer,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Englishman Tony Simpson, as saying.
He further said that if the crowds are down for the Ashes series it would have nothing to do with the demise of the pound or the strength of the dollar.
“It will be because the Aussies don’t want to come and see their team get hammered. It will be interesting to see just how many Aussies turn up,” Simpson said. (ANI)
