Bangladeshi archers hopeful of medals at CWG

Dhaka, Sep 26 (IANS) Bangladeshi archers being trained by an Indian coach are confident of putting up a good show at the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, officials said.

Apart from shooting, archery remains the lone medal hope in the sports extravaganza for which a team will leave here Wednesday, New Age newspaper quoted them as saying Sunday.

The archery team members — Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, Emdadul Huq Milon, Sheikh Sajib, Md Zia-ul-Haque, Mohammad Shamsuddin and Abul Kalam Mamun — have been training hard for the last three months under Indian coach Nishith Das and are ready for the challenge.

Bangladesh will compete in individual and team events of recurve bow and compound event of the discipline.

Hossain, who won gold medal in the 4th Asian Archery Grand Prix Championships beating T Ranjpar in men’s singles final in Kolkata last year, expressed confidence.

“We are working hard and are maintaining a level. All the team members have improved their performances and we look forward to bringing laurels for the country.”
