Bangladesh crash out for 58 against West Indies (Lead)
March 4th, 2011 - 5:40 pm ICT by IANSDhaka, March 4 (IANS) Bangladesh crashed to 58 in just 18.5 overs against the West Indies, the lowest World Cup total by a Test playing nation, in their Group B match here Friday.
Electing to bat, Bangladesh were struck by catastrophy as the batsmen made the beeline for the pavilion in front of a stunned home crowd.
Left arm spinner Suliemen Benn (4-18) was the top wicket-taker while fast bowlers Kemar Roach and captain Darren Sammy took three wickets each.
Roach, who took a hat-trick against the Netherlands in their previous match in Delhi, dismissed opener Tamim Iqbal in the first over.
What unfolded from there on was unthinkable as wickets tumbled in quick succession. Only Junaid Siddique was the top scorer with 25. Mohammad Ashraful (11) was the other batsman to reach double figures.
The previous lowest World Cup total by a Test playing nation was of Pakistan, who were all out for 74 against England in the 1992 World Cup.
