‘Balancing aggression with concentration key to my success,’ says Tremlett
January 14th, 2011 - 6:04 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jan 14(ANI): England fast bowler Chris Tremlett has said that avoiding false bravado and staying true to himself was the key to his newfound success during the recent Ashes series against Australia.
Tremlett had picked up 17 wickets at an average of 23.35 in three Tests of the five-match series.
“When I get out of my bubble that’s when I bowl badly, it’s trying to find a balance of being aggressive and maintaining my concentration at the same time,” the Age quoted Tremlett, as saying.
“I’m aggressive in my own way. I’m sure the batsmen know I’m about when I’m bowling because of my physical presence and trying to let the ball do the talking,” he added.
The 29-year-old further admitted that he had lost his way in the past when he tried to be over aggressive.
“People have said I need to be more aggressive at times, I probably tried things which were a little bit unnatural, saying a few words … but that’s not really me,” Tremlett said.
“I just found that at times I lost my focus and lost my control and bowled badly,” he added.
Tremlett was not selected to play in either of the first two Tests, but in the first day of the third Test, held in Perth, he took 3-63, troubling the Australian top order with the steepling bounce allowed for by the WACA surface.
He followed that up with 5 for 87 in the Australian second innings.
On the first day of the fourth test, the Boxing Day Test held at the MCG, he took 4-26 as England skittled Australia out for 98 runs.
He took the last wicket in the last Test, and with it, England won the series 3-1. (ANI)
