Baisoya tops Category B, team silver for India at Asia Pacific golf
August 5th, 2011 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANSBangkok, Aug 5 (IANS) Honey Baisoya emerged winner in Category B, but his modest final round of 76 cost him the overall honours as he was fourth in combined Category (A and B) of the 32nd Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championships at the Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa here Friday.
But 14-year-old Baisoya of Delhi did have the satisfaction of a second medal, as India finished second in the team standings.
In the team race, India were second, way behind Thailand’s 866. But India’s total of 883, edged Chinese Taipei (884) to third place by one shot.
Among Girls, India’s best in Category A was Gurbani Singh was fifth and Meher Atwal sixth with totals of 229 and 230, while the girls team was fourth missing the medal by one shot.
Baisoya began well with a birdie on the first, but after that there was none and he had five bogeys in his 76 as he finished with a total of 292, that won him Category B title. But in overall standings, he was tied fourth as local Thai lad, Smithi Teeratrakul (286), who topped Category A emerged overall winner. India’s best in Category A was Saqib Ahmed, whose best of the 72 saw him total 29 and finish eighth.
It was once again humid on the day as the Girls team finished fourth missing the medal by two shots. They were third after three days but dropped to fourth.
