Baisoya leads in Group B at Asia Pacific junior golf

Bangkok, Aug 3 (IANS) India’s 14-year-old Honey Baisoya moved to the top of Group B at the end of the second round at the Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championships at the Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa here Wednesday.

Baisoya, a Delhi teenager, shot 73 and was three shots clear of Thai duo Kwanchai Kongtavee (77-71) and Napol Bunbuchachai (74-74). Baisoya had a 71 in first round.

In Group A, India’s Trishul Chinappa carded a 71 in second round for a total of 145 and moved to third place in Group A (15-17 years) and his was the best round among all Indians on second day. Ahead of Chinappa were Lee Chieh-Po of Chinese Taipei (142) and Thai Smithi Teeratrakul (144).

The Indian boys team was still in the running for medals, despite slipping from second to third place. For the second day running, the three best cards for India were Chinappa (71), Baisoya (73) and Syed Saqib (75). Madappa has 76 in both rounds.

The girls team with Meher Atwal and Gurbani Singh’s cards being counted was lying fourth with 154 behind Thailand (145), Chinese Taipei (148) and Hong Kong (153). Meher Atwal (76) was lying fifth in Group A, while Gurbani Singh (78) was 12th and Nikita Arjun (81) was 16th. In Group B, Aditi Ashok (79) was eighth.
