Bad light play spoil sport for Bengal in Ranji Trophy

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Bad light played spoil sport for Bengal on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Plate semi-final against Goa at the Karnail Singh Stadium here Saturday.At the close of second day’s play Friday, Bengal had Goa on the mat at 95/5 in the first innings, in reply to 337, in their bid to come back to the Super Division. But due to bad light on the third day, only 25 overs were possible. Goa made 166 for seven by the close of play.

On the last day, Bengal have to dismiss Goa to take a first innings lead to earn their ticket to the elite group.

The game started one hour after the scheduled lunch break at 1.40 p.m.

Ranadeb Bose, who picked up five wickets Friday, provided the breakthrough by removing overnight batsman Aniket Desai (37). Ryan Ninan played a steady knock at the other end and remained not out on 66 at the close of day’s play.

Brief scores: Bengal 453. Goa 166/7 (Ryan Ninan 66 batting; Ranadeb Bose 6/50)
