Axed Harmison gets whopping 600,000 pounds contract from Durham
October 10th, 2009 - 3:40 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 10 (ANI): England fast bowler Steve Harmison has agreed a new four-year contract with Durham worth around 600,000 pounds.
The move shows that Harmison, axed by England from this winter tour to South Africa, has no thoughts of retirement.
Harmison was open to offers because his England contract expired on September 30 and he was not offered a new one.
Durham chief executive David Harker said: “We have effectively shaken hands with Steve on a new deal - and it is a long-term contract. Steve remains very committed to Durham and can stay with us for the foreseeable future.”
“I’m sure he would tell us at any stage if he felt he did not want to carry on - he is very professional and we trust his judgement. He will naturally be disappointed not to have been chosen for South Africa. But we feel it is England’s loss and Durham’s gain. He is still a match-winner,” The Sun quoted Harker, as saying.
Harmison, 30, was said to be angry over his omission this winter. (ANI)
