Australia has an edge over Pak in Test series
July 13th, 2010 - 1:42 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 13 (ANI): A new-look Australia will step onto Lord’s for the first Test of the two-match series against Pakistan on Tuesday, and statistics suggest that the former will have an edge over the latter.
Australia has enjoyed an undefeated run against Pakistan stretching back to November 1995, Fox Sports reports.
The last time Pakistan enjoyed Test success over Australia, Lord’s debutant Steve Smith was six years old, Craig McDermott opened the bowling for his country, Telstra was still Telecom and Forrest Gump won the Oscar for best picture.
Australia have won the past 12 Test meetings, 27 of 55 in history and the past six series between the two teams.
The Pakistan bowling attack troubled Australia in the T20 version of the game and should take confidence into the longer format.
According to Fox Sports, Pakistan is likely to struggle with the bat in the absence of mainstays Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan.
During the intriguing recent series in Australia, Salman Butt was the sole Pakistan player to post a Test century. He and Umar Akmal were the only two batsmen to average above 30 while five Australia players averaged 50-plus. (ANI)
