Australia beat Germany to win Champions Trophy hockey
December 6th, 2009 - 3:59 pm ICT by IANSSydney, Dec 6 (DPA) Australia overcame a two-goal half-time deficit to beat Germany
5-3 and win the Champions Trophy hockey for a record 10th time Sunday in Melbourne.
German 18-year-old Florian Fuchs equalized in the 15th minute after Luke Doerner gave Australia an early lead.
Martin Haner scored a penalty and Matthias Witthaus got a field goal for Germany to carry a 3-1 lead into the break.
Australia’s Liam de Young scored a penalty 2 minutes into the second half.
Australia scored two more penalties in the 41st and 50th minutes while Fergus Kavanagh sealed the team’s 10th Champions Trophy gold at 67 minutes.
South Korea came from behind to defeat The Netherlands 4-2 and claim the bronze medal, and Spain downed England for fifth place.
