Aussies to treat match against Lankans as the finalsFebruary 28th, 2008 - 6:39 pm ICT by admin
Melbourne, Feb.28 (ANI): The Australian cricket team will treat Friday’s one-dayer against Sri Lanka as a final.
Retiring wicketkeeper and vice-captain Adam Gilchrist said the team wanted to maintain their momentum ahead of the best-of-three finals series against India, which will start at the SCG this weekend.
“We’ve certainly taken the approach that our finals campaign starts now,” Gilchrist said.
“If we let that lethargy creep in, we lose momentum. We want to win it, we want to keep building this momentum we’ve got,” Fox Sports quoted Gilchrist, as saying.
Apart from the impending retirements for Gilchrist and Brad Hogg, this will also be the last tri-series before the one-day format in Australia is revamped.
The Sri Lankans on the other hand have said that they will play for pride.
Left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson will return to the squad after a week off. (ANI)
