Aussies can’t shy away from disappointing Ashes series performance: Haddin
January 1st, 2011 - 11:33 am ICT by ANISydney, Jan 1(ANI): Australian stand-in vice-captain Brad Haddin reckons that his team’s Ashes performance will be considered unacceptable even if they win the fifth and final Test against England in Sydney to level the series.
When asked whether a win would atone for the series results so far, Haddin replied: “No it doesn’t.”
“I don’t think we can really draw a line on performances this summer. We’re disappointed with the way we’ve performed in the series and we can’t shy away from that.”
“Our results haven’t been acceptable for us and for the people watching. England have played some very good cricket and they deserve to be in the position they are in retaining that urn,” he added.
The 33-year-old further described his appointment as vice-captain for the Test match as temporary.
“I don’t think my role will change to what it has been over the last 12 to 18 months. We’ll be doing whatever we can to get the results we want and the Australian public deserve,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Haddin, as saying.
Australia currently trails the five-match series 2-1, with the final Test to be played in Sydney from January 2. (ANI)
