Islamabad, Nov.22 (ANI): Massive irregularities have been reported in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) during the regime of Dr Nasim Ashraf.
Auditors have unravelled huge administrative and financial mismanagement in the PCB during the time Ashraf served as the board’s chairman.
According to reports, auditors told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that it seems the board was run like a ’super store’ during Ashraf’s tenure.
“Besides, ad hoc committees were formed without prior approval and powers were executed illegally and there was no record of earnings or expenses. While examining the accounting information system of the PCB, the audit discovered that the internal controls were ineffective,” the PAC was informed.
During the audit it was discovered that millions of rupees were released for giving salaries to former cricketers without any check.
When enquired about the issue, PCB chief Ijaz Butt said claimed that Ashraf had paid 10.5 million rupees to former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
It was revealed before the committee that Haq had reportedly declined to bring the issue on record to avoid tax liabilities, The Daily Times reports.
Taking a strong note of the prevalent mismanagement in the PCB, PAC chairman Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has asked the board bring its house in order as soon as possible.
Khan directed the PCB to settle the objections in Departmental Audit Committee (DAC) before the committee takes any final decision over the issue.
“The committee has got all the powers to transfer, suspend or arrest the culprit, found guilty for misappropriations of funds. However, before passing on any judgment, we would ask all the concerned individuals to take up the matter in DAC as there are reports of lack of coordination and cooperation in reaching a conclusion,” he said.
