Aston Villa to double their transfer record to get Bent
January 18th, 2011 - 5:59 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan 18 (ANI): Aston Villa will double their transfer record to sign Darren Bent for 24 million pounds from Sunderland.
The sensational offer for the England striker emerged yesterday as he handed in a transfer request.
Bent is due to meet Villa boss Gerard Houllier today before talks over his personal terms at Villa’s training ground and then a medical tomorrow, The Sun reports.
The first bid of around 15 million pounds rising to 18 million pounds was rejected, but alerted Bent to their interest.
He then informed Sunderland of his desire to leave, The Sun reports.
Bent will also get wages of around 80,000 pounds a week, 15,000 pounds more than the current top earners at Villa Park.
Bent’s arrival will signal the end of 31-year-old John Carew’s Villa Park career. (ANI)
