Asian Games boxing: Santhosh in semis, Amandeep out in quarters

Guangzhou, Nov 22 (IANS) India’s Santhosh Kumar entered the semi-finals while Amandeep Singh lost in the quarterfinals of the Asian Games boxing here Monday.

Santhosh beat Tuvshinbat Bayamba of Mongolia in their quarterfinal bout of the 64 kg. They two were tied 3-3 after three rounds but the Indian was declared the winner by the technical bench. Santhosh next plays Thailand’s Wuttichai Masuk.

In the men’s 46-49 kg quarterfinals, Amandeep lost 1-6 to Victorio Saludar of the Philippines.

Santhosh is the seventh Indian boxers to make the semi-finals in different weight categories here.

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh (75 kg), Dinesh Kumar (81 kg), Suranjoy Singh (52 kg) and Paramjeet Samota (+91 kg), have made it to the semi-finals slated for Wednesday while Vikas Krishan and Manpreet Singh moved into the semi-finals of the 60 kg and 91 kg categories Sunday.
