Guangzhou, Nov 22 (IANS) It was a disappointing day for India in the track and field competitions as none of the athletes made it to the podium in the Asian Games here Monday.

This comes a day after India bagged two gold medals and a silver at the Aoti Main Stadium.

In the women’s 400 metres final, Mandeep Kaur (52.99 seconds) and Manjeet Kaur (53.27 secs) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The gold went to Kazakhastan’s Olga Tereshkova with a season’s best timing of 51.97secs as her compatriot Marina Maslyonko won the bronze with a timing of 52.70 secs. Japan’s Asami Chiba won the silver with a timing of 52.68 secs.

In the women’s hammer throw, Hardeep Kaur finished fourth with a throw of 60.54 metres. Chinese Zhand Wenxiu clinched the gold with a throw of 72.84m and her compatriot Wang Zheng got the silver with a throw of 68.17m. Japan’s Murofushi Yuka settled for the silver with 62.94m.

India, however, have a chance in the women’s heptathlon as Pramila Ganapathy was in the third place with 3204 points after four events. Sushmita Singha Roy is fifth with 3043 points.

Uzbekistan’s Yuliya Tarasova is leading the race with 3570 while Japan’s Yuki Nakata at second spot with 3217. Pramila and Yuki have a difference of just 13 points.
