Ashok Kumar sails into quarterfinal of SRF golf

New Delhi, March 13 (IANS) Top seed Ashok Kumar sailed into the quarterfinal while second seed Digvijay Singh floundered in the SRF-All India Professional Golf Matchplay championship here Thursday. Ashok pulled off a 2-up win against R. Srinivas to reach the last eight where he will meet Arjun Singh. Singh beat Vijay Kumar after pocketing the 20th hole.

Fifteenth seed Naman Dawar closed the doors on Digvijay as he clinched a 1-up win to advance to the next round. Dawar will now clash with Shamim Khan, who defeated Vivek Bhandari 2 and 1.

Manav Jani progressed after scoring a 1-up win against Uttam Singh Mundy and will take on fifth seed Lam Cih Bing, who got the better of Mukesh Kumar 3 and 2.

Sandeep Sayal, who upstaged third seed Gaganjeet Bhullar Wednesday, went down to Harendra Gupta on the 20th hole.

Former Indian Open champion Ali Sher prevailed over C. Muniyappa 3 and 2 to advance to the second round where he will face Harendra.
