Melbourne, Mar. 20 (ANI): The chairman of the National Selection Panel (NSP) in Australia, Andrew Hilditch, has said that he welcomes Cricket Australia’s decision to hold a review into the team’s poor performance in the Ashes series which England won 3-1.

“I’m looking forward to the review. It’s a great thing for Australian cricket,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hilditch, as saying.

“There’s some very high-profile and smart people involved and if it makes recommendations for the betterment of Australian cricket that’s a good thing,” he added.

Former captains Mark Taylor, Allan Border and Steve Waugh are members of the panel headed by Australian businessman Don Argus.

The chief selector’s contract was due to expire next month, but now Hilditch will be kept on until at least August as the review process continues.

With his head on the chopping block, Hilditch says that he wants to continue because he has a great passion for the role.

“It’s very challenging and very demanding, but I think it’s a really exciting time. It’s going to be a tough 12 months, but I think we’ll come through it really well,” Hilditch said.

“From our perspective as a panel we have great passion and commitment for Australian cricket and that’s not going to change,” he added. (ANI)
