Ashes’ ‘incredible workload’ wreaking havoc on England fast bowlers: Healy
December 25th, 2010 - 2:43 pm ICT by ANISydney, Dec 25(ANI): Former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy believes that there are serious question marks hanging over England’s bowling attack for the ongoing Ashes series.
Healy said that the gruelling nature of fast-bowling Down Under is getting the better of them.
“I think Australia’s selectors were always very aware of how difficult it is have the same attack for five Tests in seven weeks. England’s selectors however are only starting to realize that,” the Sun quoted Healy, as saying.
“It’s an incredible workload. Up until the Perth Test their bowlers hadn’t been made to bowl long spells,” he added.
Stuart Broad is already out of the series with a stomach muscle injury, while James Anderson was complaining of a side strain after the third Test.
Steve Finn also looked tired, and had finished the match with figures of 2-86 off 15 overs in the first innings and 3-97 off 21 in the second.
“Anderson, having flown to England and back for the birth of his child before the match, started to tire. Chris Tremlett also looked beat by the end,” Healy said.
“With back-to-back Tests coming up, something has to give. So, Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad are very much in the mix right now,” he added. (ANI)
