On Monday, July 20, 2009, one of the most glorifying sportsman from the field of sports was laid to rest in peace amidst a large amount of grief and mourning for the loss that the sports have suffered.

The funeral for former boxing champion Arturo Gatti was at Notre Dame de la Defense Church in a northern Italian neighborhood in Montreal, Canada from 11 a.m onwards. Hundreds of mourning fans arrived for the occasion to pay their last respect for the boxing great; they all cheered for him as they used to do while he performed his feat in the ring, and chanted his name in order to show their love towards him.

Over 1000 friends, colleagues and family members were also present for the occasion. Mike Tyson also reportedly expressed his grief at the tragic end of Gatti in a letter addressed to his family. Gatti’s mother Ida, received the championship belt presented by the World Boxing Council and when she displayed it to the bystanders, they gave the late Gatti a standing ovation.

The 37 year old Gatti’s life was tragically cut short earlier this month when his dead body was found in the room of the luxury sea resort he was staying at during vacationing with his wife and 10 month old son. Since then a lot has been said and wondered about in respect to his death as the entire matter is garbed under a cloud of suspicion.

His 23 year old Brazilian wife Amanda Rodrigues has been held back by the police on the suspicion of Gatti’s murder, as a purse strap was suspiciously found at the scene of the crime, which is supposedly the tool that has been used to commit the murder. Nothing further has come to light as of now.
