Around 1,300 CWG athletes, officials arriving Friday
October 1st, 2010 - 1:13 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) Over 1,300 athletes and officials are expected to arrive here Friday for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games. Around 5,500 have already checked in at the Games Village.
Contingents from Malaysia and Ghana will be the largest of the teams arriving Friday, the CWG Organising Committee said. It did not mention the numbers. The two teams comprise participants in disciplines like cycling, aquatics, para-sports, shooting, boxing and athletics, it said.
The other contingents to come Friday are from Cyprus, Canada, Scotland, Barbados, Lesotho, Jamaica and Australia, Mauritius, England, New Zealand, Sierra Leone, the Bahamas, Jamaica, South Africa, Wales, Northern Ireland, Flkland Islands, Guernsey, Zambia, and Cayman Islands.
The Cyprus team consists of participants in boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, archery, swimming and wrestling events.
The chefs de mission of Bangladesh, Montserrat and Dominica will also check in Friday.
