Archery gold medallist seeks land for a house
October 19th, 2010 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Oct 19 (IANS) Archer Deepika Kumar, who won two gold medals in the Delhi Commonwealth Games, Tuesday sought a plot from the Jharkhand government for a house.
“Everyone has a dream to live in a good house and I expect a piece of land from the state government so that I can get a house constructed on it,” she told reporters on her return to her hometown.
Deepika, who lives in a ramshackle house on the outskirts of the Jharkhand capital, was welcomed by her family members in the traditional manner with her mother doing an ‘aarti’.
She hopes to perform well in the upcoming Asian games. “I will try to perform my best in the Asian Games and win a gold medal,” she said.
Deepika arrived in Jamshedpur Monday where she was presented Rs.10 lakh by Tata Steel. Daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, she was trained at the Tata Archery Academy, which she joined in 2008.
