Apolo Anton Ohno Reaches Six Olympics Medal Landmark

aphoVancouver, Feb 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American short-track skater Apolo Anton Ohno managed to grab the second position and won the silver medal at the 1500 meter final race at the Winter Olympics at Vancouver on Saturday. The victory was indeed a remarkable landmark in the career of the 27 year old skater as with it, he earned his sixth gold medal. However, the outstanding feat does not just end here as by grabbing six Olympics gold medal, Apolo Anton Ohno gained the record of winning the largest number of Winter Olympics medal by any American and also equaled the record of female skating legend Bonnie Blair.

With the win, the much acclaimed skater, who now has two medals in each category, also received the much coveted title of being the most successful American male competitor at the Winter Olympics. Although initially it seemed that Apolo Anton Ohno would not be able to grab a position in the top three with Koreans Lee Jung-su, Sung-Si Bak and Lee Ho-Suk leading the way, a rather unexpected twist during the final lap ensured that the American skater earns one of the top slots in the race. Koreans Sung-Si Bak and Lee Ho-Suk were ahead of Apolo Anton Ohno, when all of a sudden they crashed and went out of the race, resulting in the American’s silver medal victory.

While reacting to the remarkable run that he managed to showcase, Apolo Anton Ohno later added that winning as many as six medals has left him with no regrets about the Olympics experience. Moreover, the skater reiterated that this was a victory that is going to stay with him for the rest of his life.
