Anthony Pettis Goes For A Triangle Against Shane Roller At WEC 50

Aug 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Few will disagree to the fact that Anthony Pettis-Shane Roller fight in Las Vegas was one of the most exciting fights of WEC 50 event on Wednesday night. Both the players came up with tremendous energy and took some aggressive moves to get a control over the cage. However, it seemed that the day was set for Anthony Pettis who was able to reap a submission from Shane Roller, a three-time All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State. Anthony Pettis with the win moved a step further towards the title shot. He would now have to face WEC Champion Ben Henderson to grab the title.
On Wednesday night, while both Shane Roller and Anthony Pettis came up with some amazing moves, it was the latter that stole the show. Shane Roller although came up with some aggressive moves, he provided enough opportunity to Anthony Pettis to control the cage. Anthony Pettis went for some excellent grappling moves and successfully avoided the takedown attempts made by Shane Roller. Shane Roller though dumped Anthony Pettis on the mat quite a few times; the latter got back on feet quickly and took the lead. However, while Anthony Pettis was 3-for-3 on takedown attempts, Shane Roller was just 2-for-6 according to the analysts. Anthony Pettis also dominated the striking count and was 63-27.
Shane Roller lagged by 2-0 at the end of the second round and in the third round the fighter came up with some aggression. However, his broke failed to make an impact and only provided Pettis with the opportunity to go for a triangle choke and claim the submission. An excited Anthony Pettis is now looking forward to his fight against Ben Henderson.
