Anna Snooker: Damani cracks 116 break

Chennai, Dec 17 (IANS) Brijesh Damani (ONGC) shrugged off a first frame loss to beat local challenger Peter Paul 3-1 and post a century break in the preliminary league of the Alumini Club Anna University invitational snooker tournament here Saturday.

Damani, after losing the first frame, levelled with a break of 67 in the second and followed it up by pouching the third before closing the match with a classy 116 that comprised eight blacks, four pinks, three blues, one brown, green and a yellow.

Meanwhile, veteran S.A. Saleem, Faisal Khan, Siddharth Parikh, Rafath Habib, Vijay Nichani and R Loganathan qualified for the knock-out stage from their respective groups.

The results (preliminary league):

Group A: Devendra Joshi (PSPB) bt Subramaniam (TN) 3-2; Alok Kumar (PSPB) bt Girish.Reddy (Rlys) 3-0.

Group B: Vijay Goel (Del) bt Prem Prakash (TN) 3-0.

Group C: Dhruv Sitwala (ONGC) bt Pranit Ramchandani (TN) 3-1; IH Manudev.(Kar) bt Pranit Ramchandani (TN) 3-0.

Group D: Rupesh Shah (PSPB) bt Harpreet Singh (TN) 3-1.

Group F: Brijesh Damani (ONGC) bt Peter Paul (TN) 3-1.

Group G: Saurav Kothari bt Varun Kumar (TN) 3-2.

Group H: Laxman Rawath (Del) bt Sundeep Gulati (Del) 3-1; R Loganathan (TN) bt Siddharth Rao (TN) 3-2.
