Gurgaon, June 18 (IANS) Top seed Ankita Bhambri stormed into the quarter-finals of the $10,000 ITF tournament thrashing Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Dung in the second round at the National Tennis Academy (NTA) courts here Wednesday. Thuy Dung, who made it to the semi-finals here last week looked out of sorts as she went down 3-6, 1-6 to Ankita.
Sanaa Bhambri, seeded third showed the door to another Vietnamese player Viet-Ha Ngo beating her 6-2, 6-3.
However, sixth seed Parul Goswami had to fight her way through against Russian Angelina Gabueva to score a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 victory. She next meets younger of the Bhambri sibling, Sanaa.
Seventh-seeded Korean Sung-Hee Han registered an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Indian qualifier Grace Hanna to meet Chinese Chun-Yan He in the quarters. Chun-Yan defeated Shalini Sahoo 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Eight seed Parija Maloo brushed aside Australian Cassandra Chan 6-3, 6-3 to fix a quarterfinal date with Ankita.
