June 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The latest release by ESPN films in the ‘30 for 30′ documentary series called ‘The Two Escobars’ tells the tragic story of Columbian footballer Andres Escobar who was killed for a mistake on field by the drug mafia who had bet on him.
The documentary that aired on June 21 received great reviews from the audience and critics alike. The documentary is set to air again on July 2 and several times throughout the month. The documentary will follow the lives of the two famous Escobars from Columbia who had a great impact on the game of Football.
The ‘Two Escobars’ tells the story of the poster child of the national football team of Columbia who emerged from the depths to make his team one of the best in the world. In the 1994, he scored an own goal in a crucial match against United States. Andres Escobar was later murdered by the mafia when he returned to his own country.
His murder changed the face of Colombian football and shocked the entire world as stories of the drug money in football was revealed. The other Escobar covered in the documentary is the famous drug lord and assassin Pablo Escobar. One of the 10 richest men in the world at one time, Pablo Escobar’s passion for the game and his involvement in the national team is also highlighted by the eye-opening documentary.
Pablo Escobar is responsible for more than 5,500 murders and is said to have been the richest criminal in world history. His power and influence in Columbia is well documented in the ESPN film. The documentary also links the death of the two Escobars through an intriguing story telling technique.
