andreJan 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Andre Dawson has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. This is not the first time that he had been nominated for the induction. Last year, too, he had been nominated but was not inducted as he had received 44 votes less than what was needed to gain the required 75%. This time, he crossed the 75% mark by 15 votes, more than making up for his shortfall last year. This year, he left behind Bert Blyleven, pitcher, and Roberto Alomar, baseman.

The 55 year old baseball player, who played in the position of an outfielder, had been an All-Star eight times. Uncannily, that is the number of times he had failed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This time, he had proved to be nine times lucky. He had played with the Montreal Expos, the Chicago Cubs, the Florida Marlins and the Boston Red Sox. As he had played with a number of teams, it has not yet been decided which team should go down in Hall of Fame history as the one he played with.

This year, Andre Dawson had been somewhat prepared for the election. According to the former outfielder himself, he had counted the votes earlier, and standing at 67%, he felt that he would be able to reach the 75% mark easily. However, he did not think that Bert Blyleven would not make it, as he followed him close at 63% votes. The formal induction into the Hall of Fame will take place on the July 25, 2010, in Cooperstown in New York. The others who would be inducted with him are Doug Harvey, umpire and Whitey Herzog, manager.
