Anderson has no intention of doing a Harmy repeat at Gabba
November 22nd, 2010 - 6:46 pm ICT by ANIBrisbane (Australia), Nov.22 (ANI): Lancashire and England fast bowler James Anderson has vowed not to repeat Steve Harmison’s first ball in The Ashes series flying straight to second slip.
“The only way it will end up there is if it comes off the edge of the bat,” Anderson said ahead of the first Ashes Test, which begins here from November 25.
According to The Sun, every cricket fan’s memory will turn back four years when Harmison’s first offering to left-hander Justin Langer was so wayward that it speared directly into Andrew Flintoff’s hands at second slip.
It was a shattering moment for England - and the worst possible start to a series as they went on to lose 5-0.
Anderson, 28, declared: “To bowl the first ball is a big responsibility for me in every game we play but even more than normal on Thursday. It’s my job to set the tone for the team.”He added: “We were looking to be aggressive from ball one. So it didn’t quite go to plan. We tried to laugh it off but it was a big shock.” (ANI)
