Anaka in quarterfinals of British Open junior squash

Sheffield (England), Jan 4 (IANS) India’s Anaka Alankamony reached the quarter-finals of the British Open junior squash championship here Tuesday defeating Victoria Temple-Murray of England 12-10, 11-9, 11-8.

The Chennai teenager is the only Indian remaining in the competition following the exit of Mahesh Mangaonkar (Under-19), Abhishek Pradhan (Under-19) and Kush Kumar (Under-17) in the boys singles and Aparajitha Balamurukan (Under-19) in the girls section.

Second seeded Mohamed Abou El Ghar (Egypt) beat Mangaonkar 11-7, 11-7 11-5, while Pakistan’s Syed Ali Bukhari eliminated Kush Kumar 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9 and No.2 Emily Whitlock defeated Aparajitha 11-8, 11-2 11-1.
