Anaka goes down fighting in squash championship
July 23rd, 2011 - 1:43 pm ICT by IANSBoston, July 23 (IANS) The Indian challenge in the individual event of the World Women’s Junior Squash Championship ended here Friday as Asian junior champion Anaka Alankamony lost to top seed and tournament favourite Nour El Tayeb of Egypt in the pre-quarter-finals 11-13, 6-11, 11-9, 3-11.
Anaka had her chances as she matched the World No.17 with her strokes and led 10-9 and 11-10 in the first game. However, Nour won the crucial points to take the first game.
Nour played some brilliant drives throughout the match and it was her consistency that enabled her to win the second convincingly and then race to a 5-0 lead in the third game.
However, Anaka gave it her all, running to all corners and digging out all that was thrown at her to win the third game.
Anaka’s never say die attitude seemed to fluster the normally calm Nour who made a crucial error at game ball, but the Egyptian recovered her poise to close the match by winning the fourth game.
Nour said: “It was so hard. She gets everything back!” Anaka was pleased with her performance but said: “I am training to win such matches, I am confident of a better performance next year.”
The team event commences on July 26.
