Amy Mickelson diagnosed with breast cancer

Amy Mickelson, the wife of three time‚ major champion, Phil Mickelson, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Following the diagnoses, on Wednesday Phil said that he would be suspending his PGA Tour schedule for an indefinite period of time.

According to the reports released by the professional golfer’s management company, Amy is scheduled for more tests and in the next two weeks and her treatment will begin with a major surgery.

Phil Mickelson who is currently the No. 2 player in the world with 36 career PGA Tour wins was scheduled to participate in the Byron Nelson Championship this week itself, before going on to play the Colonial Championship, of which he is the defending champion.

Clouds of uncertainty also hovers around Phil uncertainty as to whether hr will take part in the US Open or not. The competition gets underway on June 18th, in New York. In the 2003 edition of the prestigious US Open Phil had ended up in the runner’s up spot behind Tiger Woods.

Tiger Wodds, Phil’s colleague and a close friend said, “Elin and I are deeply saddened to hear the news about Amy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, Phil, the children and the entire Mickelson family.”

Amy Mickelson, the former Phoenix Suns cheerleader was one of those wives, who would be frequently spotted in her husband’s tours. She could be seen walking during the rounds and mingling with the gallery while cheering for her husband.

Phil and Amy have been married since 1996 and have three children, two girls Amanda who is 9 and Sophia 7 and a boy, Evan who is 6 years old.
