Amla leads South Africa to seven-wicket win off last ball against Windies
May 31st, 2010 - 12:11 pm ICT by ANIRoseau (Dominica), May 31(ANI): A magnificent century by South African opening batsman Hashim Amla led the Proteas to a remarkable seven-wicket win against West Indies in the fourth ODI at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
Chasing a target of 304, Amla brought up his second ton of the series before being dismissed for 129 in 115 balls to guide South Africa home off the last ball.
He shared crucial partnerships with skipper Graeme Smith (23 off 29 balls), Jacques Kallis (51 off 54 balls) and A.B. deVilliers (57 not out), as South Africa reached 304 for three in reply to the home side’s 303 for six, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Amla added 59 for the first wicket with Smith, an assured stand of 119 with Kallis for the second wicket followed by a 46 run stand for the third.
The South African chase was also bolstered by an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 80 between De Villiers and J.P. Duminy (32 not out).
Earlier, West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul topscored with 66 and the top order all contributed to pile up a total in excess of 300.
Opener Dale Richards hit 59 off 73 deliveries, while Dwayne Bravo (46 off 51 balls) and Darren Bravo (45 not out off 31 balls) lifted the tempo towards the end.
South Africa had already clinched the five-match series, and increased it’s lead to 4-0. The tourists can now complete a whitewash in Port of Spain on Thursday. (ANI)
