Jan 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The devastating earthquake that hit Haiti a few days back has wrecked havoc with the lives of its residents. The calamity has also destroyed the basic infrastructure in the poverty stricken region. After the news broke out in the media and web, the political leaders of various countries as well as celebrities, have offered help to the residents of the country on their own. Even entities like UPS and T-Mobile have offered help for the place. After celebrities like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the latest person to lend a helping hand to the victims of the Haiti quake is Alonzo Mourning. He has joined hands with Dwayne Wade for this purpose.

They used to be teammates earlier and the result of the renewed camaraderie is an entity named Athletes Relief Fund for Haiti. With it they aim to get donations from the sports community for the hapless earthquake victims. Alonzo Mourning went to the devastated region on Friday to see what he could do for the victims there. In his statement he said that his heart goes out for the people in Haiti who have lost their relatives and property in the severe quake.

The rescue operations have started in full swing but owing to the demolished infrastructure and communication system, the rescue teams are facing hardships. The place now lacks basic amenities like pure water or medicine and relief materials from neighboring countries are the need of the hour. The efforts of Alonzo Mourning deserve praise and many more media persons and celebrities should make such outstanding donations for the victims of the Haiti quake.
