Alam bestows faith in team, says boys would dispel rumors about factionalism
October 25th, 2009 - 5:13 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Oct.25 (ANI): Notwithstanding the recent strings of controversies surrounding his team, Pakistan cricket coach Intikhab Alam is confident that his boys would do well against New Zealand in the forthcoming one-day series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and prove that there is no factionalism in the team.
Alam vehemently denied reports regarding disunity in the squad, and said that ’such myths will be shattered in Abu Dhabi and Dubai,’ where Pakistan will be playing three one-day international and two T20 games against the Kiwis.
“I’m sure that there are no groupings or divisions in the team. The boys are very much focused on their next assignment which is the one-day and Test matches against New Zealand and I’m sure you seem then performing like a strong unit in them,” The News quoted Alam, as saying.
Pakistan cricket has been going through a tough time for the last few months. Several foreign teams have refused to tour the country citing security concerns raising fears of it being alienated from international cricket.
More recently, the fate of the game plunged into more trouble following the match-fixing allegations being leveled against captain Younis Khan.
Angered over the accusations, Khan resigned from his post, however, insiders said that there was much more to it as he was unhappy with the lack of support he had been getting from some of the players and team officials. (ANI)
