Aug 21 (IBNS) University of Alabama sophomore football player Courtney Upshaw has been detained in Tuscaloosa overnight, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Jail website said.

Domestic violence three (DVIII) and harassment had been listed under the charges in the website. It said Upshaw has a $500 bond and was arrested by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

According the University of Alabama’s website, Upshaw is a sophomore from Eufaula and is a linebacker for the Tide.

Upshaw, 19, was booked at 0125 hours Thursday.

His charge carries a 12-hour holding time in jail, since it is alleged to be of a domestic nature.

State law indicates that domestic charges are to be brought forth when involving a current or former spouse, parent, child, any person with whom the defendant has a child in common, a present or former household member or a person who has or had a dating or engagement relationship with the defendant.

One of the rising standouts in Alabama’s preseason camp, Upshaw was competing for a starting job as the Crimson Tide’s Jack linebacker. He played in 13 games last season, primarily on special teams.

Meanwhile, it appears girlfriend Kendall Grzyb was also arrested in what is being described as a domestic dispute. Kendall Grzyb was arrested overnight, it was reported.

Kendall Gryzb’s father, Dave Gryzb, downplayed the incident, telling a local newspaper that the whole thing was a simple lover’s quarrel.
